“The Basilica of Artificial Consciousness” by Leo Isikdogan and Emerson Barrett is a work that alludes to the idea of digital baroque as a complex and dynamic network of concepts and relationships. It aspires to trace the future of digital in a way that is deeply rooted in the past, while celebrating a post-digital era where the digital is not a novelty anymore, but a new norm.

Built in a style that can be best described as Digital Baroque and created using a custom-designed AI art model, fine tuned on a collection of Emerson Barrett’s artwork, The Basilica of Artificial Consciousness is both fiction and reality at the same time. Its architecture is composed of a complex array of interconnected shapes and interlocking geometries of light and shadow. It resembles an open scroll with its walls and ceilings fused with the sky. It is a building that moves and changes, a building in perpetual transformation. It is a place where the laws of physics and space no longer apply, where digital is a place we all create and inhabit.

Isikdogan practice spans a broad range of disciplines, including artificial intelligence, computer vision, computational photography, image processing, augmented reality, and digital arts. He uses artificial intelligence and creative algorithms to experiment with different styles of art. He holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. He has worked at UT Austin, Motorola Mobility, and Intel and is currently a Machine Learning Research Engineer at Apple. His inaugural NFT was minted on June 21 in exclusive partnership with Verisart and SuperRare as part of 8×8: 8 genesis NFTs by 8 major artists working with AI, code and digital technologies.
 
Barrett is responsible for the merchandise empire and graphic novel series based around Palaye Royale, including a classical soundtrack project named Alister recorded at 432hz, made to listen while reading the book. Palaye Royale’s YouTube Channel has earned over 190,000 subscribers and more than 48 million views. Barett began playing the piano at the age of two and then drums at five. Art has always been a prominent way of expressing himself alongside music. He has been releasing NFTs on the New Renaissance art movement on Foundation.app.
